Celebrating over a year of testing BYD M3 in various terrains of Nepal.
We are proud to announce BYD M3 conquered all three regions of Nepal- Himalaya, Hilly and Terai. BYD M3 reached as far as Dhangadi in the West, Phaplu in the North, Lumbini in the South and Bardibas in the East (as of Dec 2020). It was easy to travel across Nepal in BYD M3 as it can be charged over-night before the adventure began next day.
Solukhumbu District lies in Province 1 of eastern Nepal. It is home to the tallest mountain in the world- Mount Everest which lies in the northern part of this district, within Sagarmatha National Park. The journey followed the route along the Araniko Highway via Koteshwor, Banepa, Dhulikhel, Khurkot, Ghurmi, Okhaldhunga, Pattale, Salleri and concluded after reaching Phaplu. The vehicle travelled a total distance of 285 km through the plains of the valley and the rough terrains of Solukhumbu where temperatures dip below 0° celcius at night. BYD M3 off-road test conducted at high altitude in Pattale (2800m), Solukhumbu.
We spent 3 days at Solukhumbu testing at many places, the roads in this district are not pitched and conditions are not good at many places. Since the bridge at Khurkot-Ghurmi section of the highway was in ruins, BYD M3 had to dive into the Dudhkoshi river to go across. The uphill offroad section of Ghurmi-Okhaldhunga section was a test of its caliber, it succeded with exceptional performance.
Nepalgunj is a Sub-Metropolitan City in Banke District, Nepal. It lies on the Terai plains located about 518 kilometres (322 mi) west of the national capital Kathmandu. We spent 2 days at Nepalgunj testing in the wide and plain highway which meant better performance for BYD M3 as it achieved over 350 km of zero-emission range in a single charge.
Lumbini is a UNESCO World Heritage Site situated in the Rupandehi District of Lumbini Province in Nepal. It is located about 272 kilometres (170 mi) west of the national capital Kathmandu.
We spent over a week at Lumbini testing in the wide and plain highway connecting Lumbini, Bhairahawa and Butwal which meant better performance for BYD M3 as it achieved over 350 km of zero-emission range in a single charge. Then we tested BYD M3 from Lumbini through to Pokhara via Palpa and Syangja. The under construction route with huge boulders and uneven landscape going uphil but even that did not bother BYD M3 in its journey.
Pokhara is a metropolitan city in Nepal, which serves as the capital of Gandaki Province. It is the country’s largest metropolitan city in terms of area and second-largest in terms of population. The city also serves as the headquarters of Kaski District. Pokhara is located 200 kilometres (120 miles) west of the capital, Kathmandu.
We have tried both Kathmandu-Pokhara as well as Lumbini-Palpa-Syangja-Pokhara route. The former route is relatively easy while the latter route is challenging as the roads are narrow, uphill and full of twists and turns. The Lumbini-Palpa-Syangja-Pokhara route is also under construction which made the test challenging but BYD M3 reached Pokhara unscathed.
Surkhet District is the province capital of Karnali province. Surkhet is the one of the ten districts of Karnali located about 600 kilometres (373 mi) west of the national capital Kathmandu. We spent 2 days at Surkhet, the narrow highways from Kohalpur with occasional potholes and ditches but BYD M3 made out unscathed.
The test was carried out to check BYD M3’s performance across the terrains of Nepal as well as to scout location for EV Charging Station. BYD M3 boasts one of the highest ground clearance among EVs in Nepal, which led to a successful completion of the test.
